Tamangoh’s experience in Japan as well as his personal research and meeting with his iaido master (Japanese sword) inspired him to perform this show that tells the story of Yasuké.
This show tells the story of Yasuké, an African from Mozambique, who became a Samurai.
Through the extraordinary life of Yasuké, the dancer and choreographer Tamangoh sees it as an ode to existence and associates ancestral Japanese art such as flag dancing, songs, flute and drum to his favorite art of Tap Dance .
This story which touches Africa and Japan will celebrate this character and we are sure that it will appeal to the school public college and high school as well as the adult public.
Tamangoh will show the richness of Japanese culture through a true story dating from the 16th century showing how a black man at that time had an extraordinary life.
The intention is also to give motivation to young people whatever their skin color.
The approach of the Urban Tap Company through this show: making Tap dance known and making people appreciate traditional cultures while bringing people together (here it is Japan, Africa, Guyana), show that ‘we can add contemporary know-how to traditional forms.
